Colorado Insurance CE Guidelines

  • License term ends on the last day of the producer’s birth month, every 2 years.
  • Even birth years renew every even year. Odd birth years renew every odd year.

Producers must complete 24hrs. of Insurance CE (including 3-hours of ethics training) every 2yr. license term.

  • Producers must complete 24hrs of CE within the line(s) of insurance they are licensed to sell. 

Students are required to read and complete all study materials PRIOR to attempting the final exam.

  • Final exams are closed book. The use of notes, books or any outside assistance is forbidden.
  • Exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party “Proctor”. Proctors may not be family members, relatives, or dependents; employers or supervisors; employees or subordinates; partners, joint ventures, or co-owners; or for anyone who has an economic or other interest in the Producer.
  • Final exams must be completed with a passing score of 70% or above to earn course credit.

Initial NFIP Flood Training Requirement:

  • 3hrs. of initial training must be completed prior to selling or soliciting flood insurance products

Initial Annuity Training Requirement:

  • One-time 4hr. training must be completed prior to selling/soliciting annuity products.

Initial Long-Term Care Training Requirement:

  • 16hrs. initial training must be completed prior to selling/solicitating Long-Term Care products.
    • 8hrs general Long-Term Care
    • 8hrs Long-Term Care Partnership  (Classroom attendance required)

Frequency of Long-Term Care Training:

  • Additional 5hrs. LTC training (classroom attendance required) must be completed every 2yr. calendar years  following completion of initial requirement.
  • Repetition Rules
    • Courses may NOT be repeated within 2 years of original completion date.
  • Carryover Rules
    • Up to 12hrs. of CE may be carried over into a new license license term IF  courses were taken in the final 120 days of their previous license cycle. 
    • Ethics hours carried over will be counted as ethics.
  • Upon successful completion of a course, AHI will provide students with a printable Certificate of Completion which should be retained by the Producer in their personal files. 
  • Certificates of Completion should be maintained for 5yrs.
  • AHI will report course completions directly to your state recording entity, based on individual state requirements. 

Courses are licensed to be presented online or by paper based self-study.

The following are exempt from Colorado CE requirements:

  • First-time producers have until their second continuation cycle to comply.
  • Producers licensed to write only one or more of the following are exempt: travel ticket selling, title, limited lines credit, and/or crop hail.
