Massachusetts Insurance Guidelines

  • The license term is every 3 years based upon the Producer’s date of birth.
  • 60hrs. of CE (including 3hrs. of ethics) are required for the first 3 year license term following receipt of an insurance license.
  • 45hrs. CE (including 3hrs. of ethics) are required every 3-year license term beyond initial term.
  • Producers may complete their CE requirement by taking courses approved for any line of authority.
  • Public Adjusters may only take courses specifically approved for Public Adjusters.
 

Students are required to read and complete all study materials PRIOR to attempting the final exam.

  • Final exams are closed book. The use of notes, books or any outside assistance is forbidden.
  • Exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party “Proctor”. Proctors must be  minimum of 18yrs old and can be any person with NO family relation or financial interest in the success of the student completing the exam. 
  • Final exams must be completed with a passing score of 70% or above to earn course credit.

Initial NFIP Flood Training Requirement:

  • 3hrs. of initial training must be completed prior to selling or soliciting flood insurance products

Initial Annuity Training Requirement:

  • One-time 4hr. training must be completed prior to selling/soliciting annuity products.

Initial Long-Term Care Training Requirement:

  • 8hrs. initial training must be completed prior to selling/soliciting Long-Term Care products.

Frequency of Long-Term Care Training:

  • Additional 4hrs. LTC training must be completed every 2yrs. following completion of initial requirement.
  • Repetition Rules
    • Courses may NOT be repeated within 3yrs. of original completion
  • Carryover Rules
    • Producers may carry over a maximum of 45hrs. to the next 3yr. license term.
    • Public Adjusters can not carry over excess hours.
    • Carryover ethics hours will be carried forward as general hours.
       

Upon successful completion of a course, AHI will provide students with a printable Certificate of Completion which should be retained by the Producer in their personal files.

AHI will report course completions directly to your state recording entity, based on individual state requirements. 

Courses are licensed to be presented online or by paper based self-study.

The following are exempt from Massachusetts Insurance CE requirements:

  • The Producer holds a viatical brokers/representative license.
  • The Producer holds a reinsurance intermediary brokers/managers license.
  • The Producer holds a surplus lines brokers license.
  • The Producer holds an advisors license.
  • The Producer is a nonresident licensee in a state with reciprocity with Massachusetts.
  • The Producer is on active military duty.
  • The Producer has been continuously licensed since April 4, 1983, and has not become licensed for a new line of authority since the original license issuance.
  • The Producer holds an auto club agents license.
  • The Producer holds one of the following limited lines authorities: travel, accident & baggage insurance, or credit insurance.
