South Carolina Insurance CE Requirements

  • License term is the last day of the Producer’s birth month, every odd-or-even year based on the year the Producer was born.

Producers must complete 24hrs. of Insurance CE (including 3-hours of ethics training) every 2yr. license term.

  • Producers may complete their 24hr. CE requirement by completing courses approved for any line of authority.
  • Producers who hold a dual property and casualty license and life, accident, and health license must complete at least 8 of the required 24hrs. in courses related to each of these lines of authority.

Students are required to read and complete all study materials PRIOR to attempting the final exam.

Final exams are closed book. The use of notes, books or any outside assistance is forbidden.

Exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party “Proctor”. Proctors must be  minimum of 18yrs old and can be any person with NO family relation or financial interest in the success of the student completing the exam. 

Final exams must be completed with a passing score of 70% or above to earn course credit.

Initial NFIP Flood Training Requirement:

  • 3hrs. of initial training must be completed prior to selling or soliciting flood insurance products

Initial Annuity Training Requirement:

  • One-time 4hr. training must be completed prior to selling/soliciting annuity products.

Initial Long-Term Care Training Requirement:

  • 8hrs. initial training must be completed prior to selling/solicitating Long-Term Care products.

Frequency of Long-Term Care Training:

  • Additional 4hrs. LTC training must be completed every license term following completion of initial requirement.
  • Repetition Rules
    • Courses may NOT be repeated within a 2 years of original completion date.
  • Carryover Rules
    • Maximum 18hrs. of CE may be carried over to the next 2yr license term.

Upon successful completion of a course, AHI will provide students with a printable Certificate of Completion which should be retained by the Producer in their personal files.

AHI will report course completions directly to your state recording entity, based on individual state requirements. 

Courses are licensed to be presented online or by paper based self-study.

The following are exempt from South Carolina Insurance CE requirements:

  • A Producer holding a limited license to sell only credit life, credit health insurance, bail bonds and travel accident and baggage insurance;
  • A Producer outside the United States or its territories;
  • A Producer who is a resident attorney licensed to practice law in the state;
  • A Producer who is an employee of a trade association holding a limited license to sell only surety bonds to its association members;
  • A Producer who has reached the age of 65 prior to July 1, 2006 and has been licensed for at least 10 years or who have reached 65 after July 1, 2006 and have been licensed for at least 10 years and who no longer sell, solicit or negotiate insurance.

The producer must notify the Division office in writing if he/she falls under one of the exempt categories.
