  • License term ends on the last day of the producer’s birth month, every 2 years.
  • Even birth years renew every even year. Odd birth years renew every odd year.

Producers must complete 24hrs. of Insurance CE (including 3-hours of ethics training) every 2yr. license term.

  • Producers may take any course approved for CE credit in Alabama.
  • Adjusters and Title agents may take any course approved for P&C credit in Alabama.

Students are required to read and complete all study materials PRIOR to attempting the final exam.

Final exams are closed book. The use of notes, books or any outside assistance is forbidden.

Exams must be monitored by a disinterested 3rd party “Proctor”. Proctors must be  minimum of 18yrs old and can be any person with NO family relation or financial interest in the success of the student completing the exam. 

Final exams must be completed with a passing score of 70% or above to earn course credit.

Initial NFIP Flood Training Requirement:

  • 3hrs. of initial training must be completed prior to selling or soliciting flood insurance products

Initial Annuity Training Requirement:

  • One-time 4hr. training must be completed prior to selling/soliciting annuity products.

Initial Long-Term Care Training Requirement:

  • 8hrs. initial training must be completed prior to selling/solicitating Long-Term Care products.

Frequency of Long-Term Care Training:

  • Additional 4hrs. LTC training must be completed every 2yr license term following completion of initial requirement.
  • Repetition Rules
    • Courses may NOT be repeated within a 2yr license term.
  • Carryover Rules
    • Excess CE hours DO NOT carry over to the next 2yr license term.

Upon successful completion of a course, AHI will provide students with a printable Certificate of Completion which should be retained by the Producer in their personal files.

AHI will report course completions directly to your state recording entity, based on individual state requirements. 

Courses are licensed to be presented online or by paper based self-study.

The following are exempt from Alabama Insurance CE requirements:

  • Individuals licensed for less than 12 months at the time of their first renewal.
  • Non-resident producers in good standing with their home states.
  • Non-resident adjusters who have met CE compliance requirements for their resident state or designated home state. If there is no CE requirement for the non-resident adjuster’s resident state or designated home state, they might be required to complete Alabama CE. For more on this exemption, please go to the Alabama DOI Website.
  • Any producer whose license is limited to acting only as a producer for credit insurance, rental vehicle insurance, crop, portable electronic, travel, motor club, dental services, and legal services, or any combination thereof.
  • Producers licensed in Alabama for 15 years and who are at least 60 years of age. Note: Only those who were qualified for this exemption before the date of January 1, 2013, may continue the exemption and will be grandfathered in. They may continue to request exemption unless the license goes inactive for over a year, in which case this exemption will no longer apply.
  • Any person licensed only for limited lines insurance, industrial fire, commonly known as debit fire, insurance, or any combination thereof prior to January 1, 2013.
  • Any person who holds a designation as a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter, Certified Insurance Counselor, Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, Certified Financial Planner certificant, Registered Health Underwriter, Registered Employee Benefits Consultant, Certified Health Consultant, or Associate Risk Manager prior to January 1, 2013.
  • Officers of insurers who are not engaged in the active sale of products prior to January 1, 2013.
  • Persons who are active members of the Alabama legislature during any portion of the biennial reporting period prior to January 1, 2013.

Producers who are exempt from CE, will still be required to complete LTC training. The Federal Law will not allow exemptions for LTC.
